About Wutong Mountain
Locals call Wutong the city's lung, and its forest cover, close to 89%, justifies the nickname. The Big Wutong peak stands at 943.7 meters, the highest in Shenzhen, and the mountain holds the source of the Shenzhen River. The national park has existed since 1989.
There are three main routes. The north road, about 7.8 km and closed to cars and bicycles, is the calmest and takes 2.5 to 3.5 hours. The Taishan Stream trail, about 5.5 km, is the oldest and the most popular; the Bitong trail, at 6.7 km, is the toughest. On the way up, the city disappears behind the trees and only reappears at the top.
