About Yangmingshan National Park

At Xiaoyoukeng, at the foot of Mount Qixing, the ground gives off steam, there are sulfur crystals on the rocks and hot springs nearby, all the result of volcanic activity that still shapes the landscape. Qixing, at 1,120 meters, is the highest point in Taipei and the tallest dormant volcano in Taiwan.

The area was known as Grass Mountain and, in 1950, got its current name in honor of Wang Yangming, a Ming dynasty thinker. Created in 1985, the park covers about 113 km² and counts cherry blossoms among its big attractions. There are also semi-wild cattle grazing in the open areas, so watch your step.
